Our Mission

Uniting carillon guilds worldwide to promote and preserve the art of carillon playing.

About us

Who we are

The World Carillon Federation (WCF) is an international non-profit organisation founded in 1974. It brings together national and regional carillon guilds and societies from across the globe to promote the art of carillon playing and to support the communities that practice and preserve it.

The WCF organises a World Congress every three years, sets international standards for carillon keyboards, and publishes guidelines to ensure the quality and continuity of this unique musical heritage.

Our member organisations span every continent where carillons are found — from North America and Europe to Australia and beyond. Together, we form an international community dedicated to keeping the carillon alive as a living, evolving art form.

WCF Standard 2006

Keyboard Standards

The WCF Keyboard 2006 standard was adopted at the Gdansk Congress on 18 July 2006. It is the third global carillon keyboard standard, alongside the GCNA standard (1981) and the North European standard (1983). It is derived from Richard Strauss’s Keyboard 2000 and represents the best available international compromise.

The WCF recognises the GCNA and North European standards and encourages continued study to refine and harmonise keyboard standards. For new installations, the WCF recommends that keyboard standard selection be made by a qualified independent consultant.
