World Carillon Federation
Our History
Since 1974, the WCF has united nations around a unique musical heritage.
Origins
The Birth of an International Federation
In 1972, carillon enthusiasts gathered in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Mechelen (Belgium – Flanders), united by the conviction that an international organisation was needed to support and foster the global development of the art of the carillon.
This shared vision led to the first official gathering in 1974 in Douai, France – marking the formal beginnings of the WCF. International collaborations had already been taking shape earlier, most notably under Jef Denyn in the 1920s, with meetings in Mechelen (1922) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (1925).
Since its foundation, the WCF has brought the international carillon community together every three years at Congresses worldwide.
